Ride your skis or snowboard on the wide open slopes at Mt Dobson this season. And at the end of the run, you can ride the Doppelmayr Triple Chairlift back to the top - a great way to rest the limbs and catch your breath.

If someone was to design a ski area specifically for beginner and intermediate riders, it would come out looking something like Mt Dobson. Dobson offers a fun skiing and snowboarding experience for everyone - from the well groomed slopes for the beginners and intermediates through to the soft and smooth powder that will test the best.

Mount Dobson is owned and operated by the Foote Family who have made it their commitment to make this the friendliest ski area around. With regular snowfalls on its peaks and across its wide open slopes, Mt Dobson offers a fun skiing and snowboarding for everyone. It is well suited to families, beginners and intermediates, but high above the groomed slopes there is soft smooth powder to challenge the best skiers and snowboarders.

Facilities include a warm cafeteria, ski and snowboard rental, ski patrol and ski/snowboard school.

Mt. Dobson Tips:

  1. Mt. Dobson offers fantastic specials including ‘Mates Rates Mondays’ – bring a friend and receive two lift passes for the price of one. Also, ‘Chicks on Tuesdays’ means women can ski all day for half day rates.
  2. Their cafe sells great coffee and the legendary Fairlie Bakehouse pies

Mt Dobson is on State Highway 8, the main route between Christchurch and Queenstown. The alpine road starts 11km west of Fairlie and 18km east from Lake Tekapo. Mt Dobson is a 40 min drive* on a smooth gravel mountain road; one of the best alpine roads in the country. It is wide enough for two vehicles to easily pass, with plenty of places to stop. Cars, camper vans and buses are suitable for the road. Please carry snow chains at all times and fit them where indicated by advisory signs. The road climbs to 1692m and the carpark is New Zealand's highest.
